We invite you to experience our vision of an environmentalLY-friendly and quality-oriented coffee company.

The story begins in our small office in Berlin, Germany back in 2017. The brothers and coffee lovers Salem and Khalil had an epiphany. From the get-go it was our aim to offer something new to the table in Berlin’s coffee scene, which is already quite diverse and innovative - this also proved to be our biggest challenge. After countless heated discussions, meetings and sleepless nights between us and other fellow specialty coffee-lovers we are certain to have achieved our goal.

From the beginning it was clear that merely opening yet another specialty coffee shop would neither satisfy the inquisitive nature of our team nor that of like-minded coffee-aficionados.

We went a step further and took a look behind the curtains - talked to the farmers, roasters and suppliers, to have a fully transparent and watchful eye over each and every element in the chain. Our customers ought to be able to trace back our coffee to the micro-lots and farms we are sourcing from. They should have the chance to know the history and the story of our farmers and their families, since their hard work and dedication is what fills our coffee bags and our cups.

But it doesn’t stop there. As you might know, the roasting process is every part as important as sourcing the fresh, green coffee beans themselves, and plays an inevitable role in the development of the characteristics of the coffee you expect to enjoy.

Unlike other coffee roasters, we believe that owning a local roasting machine for the purpose of creating specialty coffee is not only a waste of resources but will also harm the environment with its CO2-emission output.

Additionally, no small-scale machines able to fit in a coffee-shop would be able to achieve the maximum attainable precision and quality in a roast. We therefore decided to look for a sustainable alternative - finding a suitable partner in the specialty coffee industry to share not only infrastructure with, but also passion for perfection.

“WE STRUCK GOLD WHEN WE MET ALEX FROM HAMBURG.”

Alex approaches coffee with inquisitiveness and curiosity that is rarely witnessed. He founded Leuchtfeuer Coffee in 2017 and is a passionate roaster and artisan on his Loring S35 Kestrel and Loring S7 Nighthawk machines. Impressed by his knowledge, dedication and our shared values and vision for this opportunity, we started this exclusive and unique cooperation, experimenting relentlessly in developing custom coffee profiles on these world-class, environmentally friendly roasters. The intersection of mutual expertise resulted in unique beans and taste profiles we are proud to share with you.

Sourcing the best beans WHILE BEING SUSTAINABLE AND FAIR

Finding the perfect bean is a science in itself - a never-ending journey of cupping, tasting and finding the perfect source. The coffee cherry requires attentive care in order to meet the quality standards we set for ourselves. Only stringently selected importers are being used to source our coffee cherries. Furthermore, we place a very high importance on getting to know the farmers themselves, as they are an equal part in the process and deserving of a fair compensation for their dedication and work.

In order to provide you with the best, fresh coffees from around the world, we are frequently travelling to our local partners to source new and rare coffees for you. Just as with any other fruit, coffee cherries have harvest periods to take into consideration - we take the extra mile to serve you with fresh coffee beans all year long.

It is as much rewarding as it is challenging to provide and ensure a fair treatment of the farmers while bringing only the finest quality cherries back to Germany for roasting.

BLEEDING EDGE COFFEE

To always keep on track with the latest trend in the coffee industry, we seek to expand our knowledge day by day. Attending conferences, exhibitions and barista courses helps us providing you with the best coffee using the latest technology and techniques. New brewing styles and equipment are rigorously studied as they are released in renowned publications and then experimented with before being introduced in our shop.

Curiosity in coffee is critical and what keeps us motivated to serve you what we think is the best coffee in town. You might call us obsessed – and we are indeed – but this might as well be what gives our coffee the edge.

We offer most of our coffees in both an espresso and filter profile to highlight their respectively unique flavors and aromas. We only procure specialty-grade coffees with a cupping score greater than 85 points. Each roast is precisely crafted through countless iterations – adhering to this philosophy – we use cutting-edge refractometry, moisture-density analyzation and color photometry techniques to ensure uniformly excellent quality across every batch. Paying tribute to the heritage of our sourced coffees, we preserve their unique flavors by applying only light to moderate roasts.
